On April 13, 2023, Mr. Alexandre Trabbold, Chief Operating Officer of Brazil Agricultural Production Company, visited CAPIAC together with Mr. Huang Shicong, Assistant General Manager of Hainan Fifth Engineering and Trade Division of Sinomach Group, Mr. Li Fang, Project Manager and others. Ms. Xi Chunling, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of CAPIAC, Ms. Wang Qinfang, Deputy Secretary-General of CAPIAC, Ms. Xu Dan, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Center of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Mechanization Sciences Group (hereinafter referred to as CAAMS), Ms. Meng Jia, Executive Secretary-General of Agricultural Products International Trade Committee of CAPIAC received them and held a symposium.

Mr. Trabbold introduced the basic information of Brazil Agricultural Production Company which was established in 1978. The chairman of the company is the former Minister of Agriculture of Brazil who has won the “International Food Prize” and is the father of Brazilian agriculture.
Trabbold said that by 2050, the global population is expected to reach 9 billion, and food security is becoming more and more important. In the next 10 years, Brazil plans to change production through investment, continue to increase land output, strengthen irrigation, and focus on sustainable development.
For years, the Brazilian Agricultural Science Academy has maintained a close cooperative relationship with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. During Trabbold’s visit to China this time, he visited Nanfan Base, Hainan Tropical Crops Institute, Hainan University and other places to gain a deep understanding of agricultural product processing and other technologies. He said that China has completed poverty alleviation work in 40 years, which is very remarkable. He hopes to promote China’s experience to the world. The President of Brazil is visiting China and hopes to take this opportunity to further enhance the breadth and depth of agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

Secretary-General Xi Chunling welcomed Mr. Trabbold and his delegation and introduced them to the relevant business of CAPIAC and the direction and focus of cooperation between the two sides.
Firstly, in terms of academic research. CAPIAC International Agricultural Think Tank, led by Zhai Huqu, former president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, brings together a number of top Chinese agricultural experts. The two sides can rely on the International Agricultural Think Tank to carry out high-level agricultural academic cooperation in various fields, including natural sciences, agricultural policy, agricultural economy, etc.
Secondly, in terms of international trade. Agricultural Products International Trade Committee of CAPIAC can rely on large-scale agricultural product trading enterprises such as Beijing Capital Agriculture Group to increase the variety and scale of agricultural product trade between the two countries, broaden channels, and improve quality; Committee on International Trade in Aquatic Products had previously visited the Brazilian Embassy to further expand the scale of cooperation and import more Brazilian aquatic products.
Thirdly, in terms of technical cooperation. ICCAW of CAPIAC is currently the only professional organization in China that focuses on promoting farm animal welfare. China and Brazil have similar breeding modes. In the future, the two sides can work together to promote the healthy and sustainable development of animal husbandry in both countries through farm animal welfare-friendly measures; in addition, CAAMS, CAPIAC Vice-President Unit can also assist Brazil in improving its technical level in fields such as agricultural digitalization, smart irrigation, and whole-process agricultural machinery application.
Ms.Xi Chunling said that China and Brazil have complementary advantages in agriculture and broad prospects for cooperation. The next step will be to contact relevant Brazilian departments to jointly sign a strategic cooperation agreement. Supported by CAPIAC’s rich enterprise and expert resources, the two sides will explore more cooperation opportunities. It is expected that in the second half of this year, CAPIAC will organize domestic experts and enterprises to visit Brazil for discussion and exchange, and to discuss trade, investment and other business cooperation.
