On November 26th, at the 2022 World Conference on Farm Animal Welfare and Food Health, Jin Weidong, the Chairman of Wellhope Foods Co., Ltd., gave a keynote speech titled "Animal Welfare from the Perspective of Animal Producers." He vividly demonstrated the characteristics and development trends of farm animal welfare from multiple perspectives such as human nature, development and the future, and looked forward to the future of farm animal welfare.

From a fundamental perspective, how does an animal producer understand animal welfare?

金卫东通过生理福利、环境福利、卫生福利、心理福利和行为福利五个维度讲解了他作为生产者对于动物福利本质的看法。他认为现代化生产在营养供给方面更有效率,还可实时监测水质、空气、温度和湿度,能够让动物在一个更舒适、更健康,同时减少应激的状态下完成生产。他提出要和动物和谐共生,人类不需要给予农场动物相同的地位,但是人类对于农场动物具有一定的道德义务,应该从生产到运输到最后死亡的整个过程,投入到最大限度的的一些关爱和照顾,而这些通过努力是可以办到的。

Jin explained his views on the nature of animal welfare as a producer through five dimensions: physiological welfare, environmental welfare, hygiene welfare, psychological welfare, and behavioral welfare. He believes that modern production is more efficient in terms of nutritional supply and can also monitor water quality, air, temperature, and humidity in real-time, enabling animals to complete production in a more comfortable, healthier, and stress-reduced state. He proposed that people and animals should coexist harmoniously, and although humans do not need to give farm animals the same status, humans have a certain moral obligation to farm animals. Therefore, they should put in maximum effort to provide care and attention throughout the entire process from production to transportation to death, which can be achieved through effort.

He believes that producers need to be aware that protecting animal health is the most important thing. 02 从发展的角度来看,怎么样对待动物福利

对于发展方向,金卫东表示经过研究表明,不同的养殖梯模式下,福利较高时,利润较低;相同的养殖模式下,福利较高时,利润较高。他认为大幅度提升动物福利可能带来亏损,但致力于提高每一种生产模式下的动物福利水平,是更有利的。

Regarding the development direction, Jin stated that research has shown that higher welfare leads to lower profits in different farming models. While in the same farming model, higher welfare leads to higher profits. He believes that greatly improving animal welfare may result in losses, but it is more advantageous to work towards improving animal welfare levels in every production model.

他提到,中国经济不断发展,中国也不断地要加强产品的进出口。如果全球的趋势都是动物福利,大多数企业也不得不逐渐趋向这个方向发展。但是中国是一个资源有限,人口众多的国家,现在中国还有很多低收入家庭,他们的肉蛋奶,动物蛋白的摄入量还是不够,怎么样在满足需求,满足人的福利和满足先进国家更高标准的国际规则上做平衡,应该是积极的态度,谨慎的脚步。在国情下动物福利要发展但是需要分阶段,分批次。
He mentioned that as the Chinese economy continues to develop, China is also constantly strengthening its import and export of products. If animal welfare is a global trend, most companies will have to gradually move in this direction. However, China is a country with limited resources and a large population. There are still many low-income families in China, and their intake of meat, eggs, and dairy is still not enough. How to balance meeting the needs, human welfare, and meeting the higher standards of international rules in advanced countries should be approached with a positive attitude and cautious steps. Animal welfare needs to be developed in stages and in batches based on the current situation.

对于未来的发展趋势,金卫东提出了以下两点:

一是在品种、营养、环境、饲养管理、生物安全方面,都应该该全方位地考虑到动物的福利。当前我们在五大福利上的实施方面仍有很大的潜力,促进动物更健康。虽然成本和效率的平衡永远是生产者优先考虑的问题,但生产者也不应该唯利是图,也应该着目眼于长远,着眼于动物的福利。给动物更多的关爱,动物会给予更多的回报。具体采用什么样的为先进手段和科学投入去实现平衡,是我们下一步应重点考虑的问题。

二是我们不仅要考虑动物福利本身,还应该考虑环境友好,让对外的环境压力进一步减少,合理膳食、减少浪费,应该引起全社会的共识。

Regarding future development trends, Jin proposed the following two points:

First, in terms of variety, nutrition, environment, breeding management and biosafety, we should consider the welfare of animals from all aspects. Currently, there is still great potential in implementing the five major welfare aspects, which can promote healthier animals. Although the balance between cost and efficiency is always a priority for producers, they should not only focus on profits but also focus on the long-term and the welfare of animals. Giving animals more care will result in more rewards. The specific use of advanced methods and scientific investment to achieve a balance is the key issue we should focus on next.

Second, we should not only consider animal welfare itself but also consider environmental friendliness, reducing external environmental pressure, advocating for a reasonable diet, reducing waste, and promoting the consensus of the whole society.
